Indo-Row Recap

May 27, 2015 by Ashley

Ugh, I’ve been so terrible about updating this blog lately.  Big life changes have been in the works!  Over the last few months, I’ve been in the process of moving back to Texas, spending two weeks there and two weeks in Boston.  Needless to say, it’s been overwhelming.  Life is finally calming down, and I’m excited to get back in the rhythm here.
And speaking of getting in the rhythm, I had the opportunity to join a group of Boston Bloggers for a fast-paced, heart pumping Indo-Row class at B-tone Fitness on Newbury Street a couple weeks ago.  Indo-row is an indoor rowing machine class that delivers a killer total body workout in just under an hour.  While I’ve rowed before and often use an erg on as a warm-up on pull days, this class was still TOUGH!  The next day, I could definitely feel it in my shoulders, back, biceps, and glutes.  {Seriously.  Had to move leg day out a day – wasn’t expecting that!}

Designed for experienced rowers and first-timers, the class starts with a brief lesson on proper rowing form (legs to drive backwards, tight core to lean into it, pull with the arms) before you move into a few different rounds of exercises.  The rounds included a 500M pace row, a set of ladder sprints, a circuit where you swapped between rowing and planks, and ended with a set of team relays {by far my favorite part}.  Each round was set to music, which really helped you keep the pace and ensure you really worked up a sweat.

Jody, our instructor, was amazing.  She kept the energy up, cheered us on, and helped us merge good form with speed through out the class.  And don’t get me started on the studio – it was stunning!  The studio is on the top floor of a building overlooking Boston’s Newbury Street.  It was bright, cheery, and the perfect place for an early summer Saturday workout.  Huge thanks to Jenna of Boston Chic Party for setting it all up!

Looking to try Indo-row yourself?  btone offers a 3 class, $30 package for new clients!  Sign up for three indo-row classes or mix it up with their Barre or signature Tone class on the Megaformer.  They have studios in Back Bay, Lexington, Sudbury, and Wellesley.
