Choosing inconvenience

August 20, 2015 by Ashley

When you travel a lot, you pick convenience at {almost} any cost. Direct flight for $100 more? Done. Upgrading on a red eye to sleep better? Of course. A more expensive hotel closer to where I need to be? No brainer.
Not this week. On Monday, I canceled my nonstop flight, gave up an extra day I really wanted to spend in the Boston office, and booked a Thursday night flight with a connection. Convenience matters, but spending time with the people you care about matters more – even if it’s a little inconvenient.  {If you haven’t read Gary Chapman’s “The Five Love Languages”, whether you’ve been married for years or are still looking for that right person. It’s been a real eye opener for me.}

So here I am, waiting on a delayed flight to DC where I’ll hop a flight to Dallas in a middle seat in the back of coach.  He’ll be in the aisle seat next to me, and at least we’ll get a little bit of Thursday together. When you both travel all week, you make time. Even when it’s on airplanes. In the back of coach. Cramped in a middle seat next to a stranger.
